How To Be Successful in Life: 7 Principles of Success That Actually Work

15 AUGUST / 2023 / 13:00

In todays’ post, I'll be sharing some of the most valuable lessons that I've learned from one of the best self-help books I've read so far. The book is packed with interesting knowledge, ideas, and concepts that are both familiar and unique. As a personal development coach, I found this book to be a game-changer, and I couldn't wait to share my insights with you.

In fact, I loved this book so much that I made it a book choice for my Patreon book club, where all the patrons got to take a look at my notes and discuss it with me. If you're interested in joining my Patreon page, click on this link.

The book that I'm talking about is "How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be" by Jack Canfield. The way that Canfield has put together all the ideas and concepts in this book is simply fabulous. It's a must-read for anyone who wants to achieve their goals and live a more fulfilling life. So, without further ado, let's dive into some of the most valuable lessons from this book!

The Importance of Taking Action on Life Principles

The key lesson from this book is simple yet crucial: principles only work if you work them. No matter how much you read about success, wealth, or happiness, you won't achieve them unless you take action.

You cannot expect someone else to do the push-ups for you or accumulate wealth on your behalf. Only by putting the principles into action will they start working for you. As Buddha said, "Believe nothing...unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." Once you believe and agree with the principles, take action and see the results.

Taking Responsibility for Your Life

The second rule for success outlined in this book is taking responsibility for your life. You cannot change the past, but you can control what you do now and take action for the future. The author emphasises that there are only three things you can control in life: your beliefs, your visualisation, and your actions. Understanding this is crucial because it empowers you to take charge of your life and create the life you want.

You have the responsibility to control your life, and you can affect the events in the future by changing your reaction to them now. Making excuses is easy, but it won't lead to success. By taking responsibility for your life, you become the captain of your own destiny.

As George Washington Carver said, "Ninety percent of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses." Don't be one of them. Take responsibility for your life and take action towards the life you desire.

The Power of Your Reaction to Shape Your Life

Your reaction to events in life determines the outcome. The formula is simple: event + your response = outcome. Your perspective on the event will influence the course of your life. Complaining is a common reaction to events, but people often complain about things they can change or have control over.

Complaining can be useful, but it's essential to turn that complaint into action. By changing your reaction to events, you can shape the outcome of your life. Remember, your perspective is powerful, and it can lead you to success or failure. Choose wisely.

The Power of Taking Action: Turning Dreams into Reality

The fourth principle in this book is all about the importance of taking action. Without action, nothing is possible. You can plan, aim, and dream all you want, but unless you take concrete actions towards your goals, you won't achieve them. The universe rewards people who take action.

In fact, there is a saying in Azerbaijani language that translates to "an action from you and a wealth or success from me," meaning that the universe or God grants success to those who take action. Satisfaction comes from enough action. Even a small step forward can bring immense satisfaction. Taking action is the most crucial part of any success.

Remember, there are three key steps to success: being in the right place at the right time, knowing that you are there, and taking action. So, turn your dreams into reality by taking action towards your goals.

The Power of Asking and Refusing Rejection

The fifth principle in this book is about the power of asking and rejecting rejection. Asking is one of the most powerful sources of success and happiness, but many people neglect it due to their fear of rejection. However, when people don't ask, they reject themselves before even getting a chance to hear a yes.

To be successful, you have to learn to deal with rejection and not take it personally. Refusing rejection means that a no from someone doesn't mean a no from everyone. Keep going until someone says yes. Make yourself strong enough to withstand rejection and turn a no into a yes.

The Power of Your Company

The sixth principle in this book is about the power of surrounding yourself with successful people. Jim Rohn once said that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Therefore, it's crucial to choose those five people very carefully. Surround yourself with people who are positive, visionary, and dream big.

Stay away from those who drag you down and think negatively. Vince Lombardi said that confidence is contagious, but so is lack of confidence. Surround yourself with people who inspire and motivate you. If you don't know many successful people, find role models to learn from through their biographies, interviews, or books. Remember, the company you keep can shape your life.

The Power of Taking the First Step

The seventh and last principle in this book is the importance of starting now. Whatever your aspiration, goal, or dream may be, begin now. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Don't wait for the magic moment or perfect time to arrive because it might never come.

Richard Paul Evans once said that everyone who got to where they are had to begin where they were. Successful people have to start somewhere, and you can, too. Remember, you can't do everything at once, but you can begin somewhere. So, start now and take that first step towards your goal.
